I am passionate about communications and news media. I know how to write for a target audience, and how to do it on deadline. I believe in clear, concise messaging that is easy to understand. I have fun designing sharp visuals to go with information. I know how newsrooms operate and who is the best person to contact to get news coverage. My journalism background allows me to easily connect with local reporters.
For more than 13 years, I worked in television newsrooms. In fact, I have worked at all four major network affiliates (ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC). I was a newscast producer and then I was promoted to executive producer. My greatest joy working in news was the ability to make our audience feel smarter and know more about their community and their world. I also liked sharing news in creative, visual ways, making the information more memorable and engaging. If I can make a career presenting meaningful content in a way that people will remember, I consider that a great life!
I have been blessed to receive several awards for my work in television news. At KDVR-TV/KWGN-TV in Denver, CO, I won four Heartland Emmy Awards in different categories. I also won a Regional Murrow Award for breaking news coverage of a deadly crash on I-70. You can watch part of that coverage in the “Premier Newscasts” link at the top of this page. When I was at KSTP-TV, I won a regional Society of Professional Journalists “Page One Award” for Best Newscast.
Beyond communication, I develop positive relationships with people, mainly because I am curious in nature. The ability to understand other people, to treat them with respect, to empathize when times are tough, and to find common ground is really important to me. I have been fortunate to live in six different states and meet people from a variety of backgrounds. I am proud to have established good connections all across the country.
